we had a fun little iphone photo shoot with my Takeyama Noriya vinyl figures – they’re teeny tiny

look how small that bear is, that’s a sprinkler head.

here’s a little spaceman

being attacked by a giant hand! That’s actually Akira’s little hand but it looks gigantic in context.

Happy Monday!

I recently received this gorgeous birth announcement from my friend Marieke in Amsterdam..

Marieke and I became friends many years ago when we both started our blogs back in ’06. At the time, she was an attorney by day and a crafting/drawing lady by night. She soon quit her day job and started attending the Royal Academy of Arts in Amsterdam.  We had a chance to hang out for a few days while she was out in LA visiting many moons ago.

She’s just another supreme example of a woman who made the choice to follow her bliss.

Nausikka from what I can gather is a character in Greek mythology, such a beautiful name for a little girl.

Congratulations Marieke!

a photo from a recent ladies weekend trip to Laguna.

We spent hours and hours just lounging about on the beach, the entire weekend was sheer bliss. Thank you ladies.

I’m painting Keith’s old dining table for my studio. It will be my new desk.

I’ve been putting this off since we’ve moved, I’ve been using a plastic picnic table instead.

These are pieces from the legs.

They look like powdered sugar donut halves.

New laser cut acrylic numbers for our home.

this just came in the mail today. I’m so excited.

I started my first blog back in January of 2006, life was so different back then, I never would have had the courage to start a blog or to see myself as an artist (this happened very slowly) if it wasn’t for trailblazin’ ladies like Grace Bonney.

Jonathan Adler’s forward in the book really says it all

We spend a lot of time in Venice Beach. It’s our go to beach.

We walk the canals and imagine ourselves living there on weekends.

It’s where we were the day before my son’s birth.

I relish Thursdays. These are the days I get to spend with Akira.

Today we ate candy, rode trains, rode a merry go round (twice), went to an indoor playground where you can load air cannons full of foam balls. Yes, my boy really teaches me how to play like one.

We’ve been pretty spoiled lately, us southern Californians. Our summer has been mostly mild, but we’ve

approached legit heat wave status. These were taken recently at a friends house, those are not our chickens…I wish!

We did get to take the bounty home though, yay!

It was my birthday a few weeks ago. Lots of love from family and friends.

we are sloooolwy unpacking and doing things to our house. I picked up these cheapie picture rails at Ikea which worked perfectly for all of Akira’s books. I really like how this looks – I’m going to do the same for my studio!

I found this short little Picasso book for kids at our local used book shop – I love the hand written type and the little Picasso sketches.

a small selection of stores are carrying my line – the stockist list is up on the site – if you’re in any of these neighborhoods  stop by and check out my cards!

hope yours was grand!

I had so much fun working with my good friends Nick and Chelsea on their wedding invitations.

N + C are both creative people who lead very creative lives, so naturally they wanted an invitation that reflected who they really are. Nick is a feature and television writer and Chelsea works at the Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators, it’s so fitting that they wanted to tell the story of how they met, fell in love and foretold how they got married and lived happily ever after. We thought a slightly larger letterpressed size would encourage guests to eventually frame the invites as a souvenir! Their wedding and reception will take place in the historic Bisbee, Arizona, hence the slightly south western vibe.

Yay! Click HERE for more photos.

I had a great afternoon with Shino of Fugufugu Press today. We had lunch down the street from her studio in Pasadena and then she was kind enough to show me around her fantastic letterpress studio. She was in the middle of scoring some of her cards so I got to watch her process, she looked like such a bad ass running that huge Heidelberg Windmill! Thanks for taking  time out your day to hang out Shino! xxx
